HERE ARE SOME FACTS YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT ORTHODONTICS

Orthodontists are able to enhance a smile at any age. Though there is recommended period to begin treatment. Starting treatment on time ensures the best result and the least amount of time and expense. The American Association of Orthodontists recommends that child should be evaluated at the first sign of orthodontic problems or no later than age 7. At this age, braces treatment may not be necessary, but careful examination can determine the most advantageous time to begin treatment. Early evaluation benefits in timely detection of problems and more effective treatment. Careful and precise intervention guides growth and development of teeth, preventing serious problems later. When orthodontic intervention is not necessary at the time, our orthodontist will schedule patient for a recall and monitor the problem until it has been taken care of. Why start at 7? By the age of seven, the first adult (permanent) molars erupt and establish the back bite. During this time, an orthodontist can evaluate front-to-back and side-to-side tooth relationships. For example, the presence of erupting incisors can indicate possible overbite, open bite, crowding or gummy smiles. Timely screening increases the chances for an incredible smile.

WHAT ARE ADVANTAGE OF INTERCEPTIVE TREATMENT?

Some of the most direct results of interceptive treatment are:

  • Creating room for crowded, erupting teeth

  • Creating facial symmetry through influencing jaw growth

  • Reducing the risk of trauma to protruding front teeth

  • Preserving space for unerupted teeth

  • Reducing the need for tooth removal

Reducing treatment time with braces Are you a candidate for orthodontic treatment? Orthodontics is not merely for improving the aesthetics of the smile; orthodontic treatment improves bad bites (malocclusions). Malocclusions occur as a result of tooth or jaw misalignment. Malocclusions affect the way you smile, chew, clean your teeth or feel about your smile. Why should malocclusions be treated? According to studies by the American Association of Orthodontists, untreated malocclusions can result in a variety of problems:

  • Crowded teeth are more difficult to properly brush and floss, which may contribute to tooth decay and/or gum disease.

  • Protruding teeth are more susceptible to accidental chipping.

  • Crossbites can result in unfavorable growth and uneven tooth wear.

Openbites can result in tongue-thrusting habits and speech impediments. Ultimately, orthodontics does more than make a pretty smile – it creates a healthier you.

ADULT TREATMENT

We offer a full range of treatments specifically designed for adults – leaving you with a dramatically different smile and healthier bite. By seeking orthodontic treatment as an adult you can possibly avoid severe tooth decay, gum and bone loss, irregular wear of the tooth enamel, and TMJ/TMD pain. MINI-DIAMOND
Mini Diamond braces are popular with patients of all ages. Noticeably smaller than regular metal braces, this appliance is more comfortable! They’re also efficient, yielding the same treatment time as traditional braces.

INVISALIGN®
The Invisalign System is a series of clear overlay templates—called aligners—that have been generated by computer simulation to gradually move the teeth. This system is available to adult patients with certain orthodontic bite problems. Ask us if you are a candidate for the Invisalign system. Invisalign® straightens your teeth without wires and brackets, using a series of clear, customized, removable appliances called aligners. It’s virtually undetectable, which means hardly anyone will know that you’re straightening your teeth. Clearly Different The Invisalign® System combines advanced 3-D computer images technology with 100-year-old science of orthodontics. Invisalign aligners are designed to move your teeth in small steps to the desired final position prescribed by your orthodontist. Each aligner is precisely calibrated and manufactured to fit your mouth at each stage of the treatment plan. Your first step is to visit our office to determine if Invisalign is right for you. After sending precise treatment instructions, Invisalign uses advanced computer technology to translate these instructions in a sequence of finely calibrated aligners — as few as 12 or as many as 48. Each aligner is worn for about two weeks and only taken out to eat, brush and floss. As you replace each aligner with the next, your teeth will begin to move gradually — week-by-week until the final alignment prescribed is attained. Then you’ll be smiling like you never have before! If you want to learn more about Invisalign and how it works, please visit the Invisalign®Homepage. To ensure the best possible results, only an orthodontist who has been trained and certified by Align Technology can diagnose and treat using Invisalign. Invisalign is not intended for children and is not appropriate for every adult. Only an orthodontist can determine if this treatment is an effective option for you.
